Granite Falls Business and Professional Women's Club

BPW-NC Legislative Mission: Ensure pay equity, equal education and economic opportunities at all stages of life; and promote affordable, quality dependent care to help ensure economic self-sufficiency for women.

BPW-NC Mission Statement: BPW/NC's Mission is to provide personal and professional growth opportunities and to promote equity for North Carolina women in the workplace.

Becoming Powerful Women

Business and Professional Women work through the political process to support laws and policies which benefit workers and their families. BPW leaders testify before Congress, lobby for BPW issues, and serve in political offices. They worked tirelessly for the following legislation:•Child labor laws•Family and Medical Leave Act•1963 Equal Pay Act•Civil Rights Restoration Acts of 1987 and 1988•1976 women’s Education Equity Act•Housing and Community Development Act•Equal Credit Opportunity Act.BPW/Granite Falls is dedicated to helping women achieve their fullest potential. The organization recognizes students and workingwomen for academic achievement and career accomplishments. Members study issues important to workingwomen. These include the following:• Quality, affordable dependent care•“Glass ceiling” which keeps qualified women from the highest paying jobs•Pay equity which values jobs for the skill and knowledge required and not for the gender or race of the person who usually holds the office.•Equal opportunities in employment, education, and credit•An end to sexual harassment and violence against women•Equitable Social Security laws•Health Care which recognizes the special needs of women.
