History of BPW/Granite Falls: The Granite Falls Business and Professional Women's Club received its charter from Mrs. Bert Tyson, President of the North Carolina Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., on Thursday, May 27, 1965 during a special Charter Night program held at the Lenoir Country Club in Lenoir, N. C. The Lenoir BPW sponsored the new organization in honor of Mrs. Stella Spencer, a past State President and member of the Lenoir Club. Special guests included officials from the Town of Granite Falls, presidents of local civic clubs, various State BPW officers, and representatives from BPW clubs in Boone, Hickory, Lenoir, Statesville, Shelby, and Charlotte. Mrs. Ruth Easterling, past BPW/NC President and National Chairman of World Affairs, brought greetings from the National Federation. (Mrs. Easterling would later become President of the National Federation and a State Representative to the North Carolina General Assembly.)There were 33 charter members. For information about the new organization, go to www.granitefallsweassociation.orgBPW/Granite Falls usually meets the fourth Tuesday night of each month at 6:30 p. m. in the Granite Falls Civic Building on the campus of the William B. Shuford Recreation Center on Pinewood Road in Granite Falls, N. C. The meeting begins with a covered dish dinner followed by a short program and brief business session. Guests are welcome.
